I want to become a surgeon, what are the steps that I should follow?

I'm im grade 9 in Canada and I eventually want to go to U of T or McGill university. I want to become a surgeon. What can I do in high school that will help me? What should I do when i first get out of high school? Is there anyone who can explain how difficult or challenging it is or has been through this themself?
