Why do parents laugh at their kids dreams?

I'm currently a high school student who aims to become a physicist. I have high grades, and was accepted to various science programs for my grade 12 year. I took the AP Chemistry and Physics exam and got a level 5 in both of them. Though I have very high grades, whenever family comes over and I tell them i want to be a physicist, or a software engineer, they laugh. Like today for example. My Uncle came over, and asked what i wanted to become in the future. When I told him that i wanted to become a physicist, my mom started laughing. When i told him i was going to go for McGill university and apply to princeton, my mother started laughing again. It hurt a lot. It's not like I'm averaging a 70% with mixed courses and making wild claims. I'm averaging a 95% and took a lot of AP Courses, and Enriched courses and she still laughs... everytime. Can someone identify this Winchester .22 Long rifle?

I recently inherited a Winchester .22 Long rifle from my grandfather when he passed away. I have been trying to look for information on the gun online to see if there's anything I need to know before I shoot it. But I can't find the gun anywhere! I know it is Winchester because it is branded as such on the barrel. I also know it is .22 long because it is designated as such below the Winchester stamp. But I am unsure of the model. The gun is quite old (I don't know manufacture date but it's been around for decades) and I don't think it's made anymore. The gun has a loading mechanism where rounds are inserted into a tube that leads up to the chamber. A spring loaded pole must be unscrewed and puled out to expose a cartridge shaped hole on the bottom of the tube (which is below the barrel) to load rounds. The gun has a pump action that also cocks a fully functioning hammer (a possible substitute?) It's fairly easy to field strip as one tool-less screw needs to be undone to open the chamber. Can anyone enlighten me as to the model number of this gun as I'm looking forward to learning more about it and taking it out to shoot. If I get the chance I will upload photos to provide added clarity. Any help is much appreciated!

Hello everyone, I'm a first year student studying engineering at mcgill. In high school I was one of the top acheivers in my school. For my first term at mcgill i got a GPA above 3 (everyone told me its fine to get this in first year). Now, the second semester was hell for me, i got horrible grades on my midterms, i hated engineering now like never before, i felt like switching to other faculties, but couldnt think of anything else to suit me. I am now in the finals period, I already wrote 2 exams and did very bad on them both.. I have 2 left i feel really discourged from studying because I'm afraid what would happen if i fail those 2 exams, whats gonna happen with my future at this university, what would my parents reaction be. How can redecorate my room on a pretty low budget?

Question about intramural sports in college?

So here's the thing. I played soccer competitively until I started high school, when I just ran out of time and had to quit (I also practice karate and ride horses, so I really had no time for soccer). Anyway, I would love to play soccer in college next year- it happens to be McGill University in Canada- and they have both intramural soccer and regular varsity soccer. Obviously, as I haven't played soccer in high school, there's no way I can do varsity soccer. Sorry its long but... Well this guy,... I fell in love with him as soon as I saw him. I met him in sixth grade and now we're only like a week away from the end of seventh grade. He stared at me a lot in sixth... And when I noticed it I started putting a tally on my arm with pen every time I caught him in math class. For an hour of math class ONLY, I got 173 tally marks. Is that creepy? I kind of thought it was cute. Then while we were walking to the bus he walked up to me and my bestfriend Josh. He was like "Hey you guys what classes do you have?" so I gave him my schedule and so did Josh. Mine was Mr. Stallings, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Rabon, Mrs. Pinto, Mrs. Chappell, Ms. Mouton. Then the next day I saw him in the offfice with a ripped piece of pink polka dot paper... The paper I ripped off my binder with my schedule... Then in like the 3rd day of school he came to band class with a big grin on his face, I was like "he isnt in band...." and sure enough he'd signed up for the same instrument as me. Then the rest of the day he had every single class I had. That was kind of wierd. Then I picked fun at him and always called him gay. It was cute to see his reaction. He'd smile and be like "I'm not gay!!.." Then one day he came up to me in the hall and cornered me against a set of lockers and stared into my eyes, it was like fire... I'm insecure and so I don't like eye contact with people that long... He just stared at my eyes for like 5 minutes and I got squeemish and was like "urm, could you back up? I'm clusterphobic." he said "i have a girlfriend." "..and?" "And you should look her up. Her name is Kayla White," I was like "okayyyy, why do I need to know that..?" he said "friend her on facebook please?" So I did and she seems nice, but they keep breaking up and getting back together which kinda pisses me off since I like him, lol. Well anyways I drew a flower on his locker in sharpie to annoy him and he was like "get that flower off my locker or I'll... I'LL HUG YOU!!!!" I was like "WHOAH, CHILL ITS JUST A PRETTY FLOWER." (: During band concerts I always sit beside him. Mrs Williams told me he asked her to arrange it like that and she asked if I had a problem with it I said no. After our last concert he was like "Good job, I got lost and found where we were at by looking off your fingering." -insert creepy smile on his face- WTF. Then during the End Of Grade testing when I was finished I looked around the room, and every day of EOG testing I'd look up to find him staring at me. -shiver- Cute but CREEPY. Everyone says he likes me and everyone knows I like him because I told a friend who can't keep a secret on accident. OH, almost forgot. I just found out that I blush every time he talks to me. Maybe he just thinks its funny when I blush? Or do you think he likes me or is he just a creepy kid..? Help?

Cheap Little-Known College or Expensive Well Known University?

It's almost time for me to make a decision on what college I would like to attend in the fall, and I'm torn. I got into McGill University, a very prestigious and respected school in Montreal, the problem is it will cost me and my parents about $20,000 a year (5500 of which will be in stafford loans.) On the other hand I got a full scholarship to St Edward's, a small liberal arts school in Austin Texas. I would still have to pay for room and board and travel expenses but I will be able to do that and graduate with minimal loans. I like both campuses but McGill is by far the better school with an international reputation. I know my problem is common for high school seniors and I was wondering if anyone would like to share their experiences or offer some advice. In particular, how much does the reputation of a school matter? I plan on majoring in economics but I'm not sure I want to work right after college. Well at the moment I am out of school but, this really ticks me off. This teacher was screaming at all of us. She started ignoring students, and yes we shout out. Not sure why this is is Marriage and Divorce, but...assuming you're going for an academic degree, grad schools care about your academic achievements: grades, standardized tests, and published research. Extracurriculars and work experience are nice, but unless they're directly related to the former in some way, they're not a major factor. And yes, you may be at a disadvantage compared to candidates who didn't have your struggles from the start (or who are coming out of more prestigious undergrad programs), but as long as you can argue that your newer transcripts reflect who you really are and what you're capable of, that'll be taken into account. Besides, if this is what you want, then why shouldn't you try?

As long as your grades are doing well and you're not feeling stretched in too many directions, keep doing what you're doing (and more, if you feel you can). I am looking to apply for a graduate program in counselling psychology in 5 universities in Canada. U of Calgary, U of Alberta, Athabasca University, McGill, and Yorkville. Every school requires that I have all letters of reference, transcripts, GPA, and other forms to be submitted by early december. Why are they asking for these, when many applicants have not even completed their final year of undergrad? It doesn't seem right to assess everyone when they aren't even completed yet. I would suggest that you majorly boost your extracurricular activities because if your grades are not stellar, that's the next thing that universities look at. I don't know about Concordia or Bishop, but it's unlikely that you'll get into McGill with those grades, as the competition is stiff and they even turn straight-A students away. Your grade 10 and 11 marks are the most important because you'll have to submit high school grades in the middle of your grade 12 year so they won't be able to base your admission on your entire grade 12 year. My current grades are 94% in English, 91% in socials(French immersion), 85% in physics, and probably around 80-83% in math 12. Last semester I got 93% in drafting and design, 89% in French, 86% in math 11 and 85% in Chem 11. I'll be taking calculus next year, and all the engineering courses I need for university preparations. I just want to know if these marks are too low if they look back on grade 11? I did an online application for Ocean State Job Lot last Sunday (not yesterday) and then I followed up with a call on Wednesday. My girlfriend i broke up with made out with another guy and wants me back.?

This might take awhile so bare with me. We had been dating for 3 and a half years and were deep in love for 2 of them, until grade 12. We had less time together because of school but i still loved/love her. Eventually she broke up with me saying she wanted to be independent and still loves me. After i found out i feel like she betrayed me, and did not feel guilty because she continually went places with him during this time she stil lsaid she loved me and missed me and stuff. She insists this was the only time and says that she'll never talk to him again. She came to my house on the day that i said we were finished and the day after and was crying for around 7 hours insisting that she was sorry. I love her so much I just don't know if I can trust her, she wants to get back together with me as she know i wanted awhile ago for the last 4 months but i feel so unhappy whenever i think about what she did, and what will happen if she finds a guy who is actually attractive(hes average looking but she told me she thought he was gross a long time ago). I really wish with all my heart that she could make it up to me somehow and that I could forgive her but I don't know if i can ever trust her again. Why did my skin change so much as a teenager?

almost all through middle school my skin was clear, I had an even skin tone, and it wasn't too oily or too dry, I didn't need to wear any foundation or powder, but as soon as I got to high school my skin tone started getting more red, splotchy and uneven, I got really bad breakouts, I stared getting really oily in my T-zone and flaky dry in the other areas, and now Im super self conscious about my skin. I went to the dermatologist a few months ago and I got prescribed 3 topical creams and so far it got rid of the acne, but there are still a bunch of red spots where all the acne was, so now I have red polka dots all over the sides of my cheeks, and my skin tone is still really uneven! WHEN WIlLL THIS GO AWAY?

Hi, a friend of mine said that he is doing his Masters (PART-TIME) at McGill Uni (Montreal) and when I looked him up on the student directory, there was NO record of him...meaning his name didn't bring up any matches. I am not sure what to think? Either he is lying OR part-time graduate (Masters) students do not get published in the directory as the regular students do? I'm confused! I even heard that not all the students names are in the 'database/directory' and if so, what determines that? I am more inclined to think that maybe he lied not thinking that I would look him up.

I've been doing good the past 5 days. Add some white vinegar and lemon juice. Add some sea salt if available..Is there any other wines available? ..stick to white, clear wines. Walmart has a white wine for two bucks called 'oak tree' or 'oak leaf', something like that. Capers do make a difference, the flavors easily absorb into pastas and poultry and its an acidic,lemony taste that goes well with chicken and often required for piccata. Without the white wine and the capers, it aint really piccatta..

I eat literally 5 or 6 times the amount of salt a healthy person should eat but I've tried EVERYTHING. All of the salt substitutes and I've tried cutting back or not eating it but everything tastes gross without all of the salt I put on.
